Infrastructure

Here you will find information about the distributed registration system solution, including name server locations.

Registry system

The .CZ and 0.2.4.e164.arpa (ENUM ) domains are administered using the DSDng registration system (Distributed Domain Administration – New Generation), developed by CZ.NIC between 2006 and 2007. The system replaced the earlier DSD version on October 1, 2007.

FRED

The registration system is based on FRED (Free Registry for ENUM and Domains), an open source software package available under the GNU GPL license.

Network infrastructure

The distributed architecture of the registration system is deployed in parallel across three fully independent locations, all of which have redundant network connectivity provided by two independent network paths.

Two of these locations also maintain their own independent connections to two nodes of the NIX.CZ peering centre and to international networks. The third location is connected to the NIX.SK peering node as well as to international networks.

All connections are provided over both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.

Secondary Name Servers

Continuous DNS operation is ensured by a network of secondary name servers.

For both zones administered by the registry, secondary name servers are deployed not only at the two locations mentioned above, but also at additional sites across Europe and around the world, as shown in the diagram below.

Platform diversity is also an important aspect of the solution. Different DNS server implementations are used for the name servers, including Knot DNS, BIND, and NSD. Likewise, the network infrastructure at individual locations is based on equipment from various vendors, such as Cisco, Juniper, and Intel.
