How to Register a Domain
CZ.NIC does not provide domain registration services directly to end users. To register a domain name you need to choose an accredited registrar that has access to the registry and manages domain names on behalf of its customers.
Before registering a domain
The first step is to choose a domain name. A domain name may contain only letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), and a hyphen (–). The hyphen can not be at the beginning or end of the name. Maximum length of a domain name is 63 characters.
You can use WHOIS service to check whether your chosen domain name is available. If the domain name is available, proceed with the registration process outlined below.
1. Selection of registrar
You can choose a registrar from the list of registrars , which provides direct access to their registration systems.
2. Registering contact information
Before a domain name can be registered, it is necessary to register a contact containing the details of the person or persons who will be associated with the domain name in the registry.
The roles of these contacts are defined as follows:
Domain Holder may change the domain name.
Administrative Contact may modify all information associated with the domain name, except for changing the domain holder.
Technical Contact may change the domain's technical settings.
The same person may be assigned to all roles, or up to ten contacts may be registered and assigned to a domain name across these roles. The only exception is the domain holder role, which can be assigned to a single person only.
Make sure your contact details, especially your email address, are accurate and up to date. Important notifications regarding domain management and expiration are sent to this address.
3. Registration of name server set
Technical data associated with a domain name are stored in a nameserver set (NSSET). A nameserver set contains the IP addresses of the nameservers on which the domain name is hosted, together with one or more technical contacts.
When creating a nameserver set, you must specify the relevant nameservers and provide their IP addresses (known as GLUE records) if they are part of the registered domain. You must also assign one or more technical contacts.
4. Domain name registration
You must then assign the contacts created in the previous step (or during an earlier registration) to the selected domain name as the Domain Holder and, optionally, as Administrative Contacts.
Once the registration has been completed, you can verify the domain name details using WHOIS .
If the domain name is not available but you believe you have a legal right to it, please proceed to the Domain Name Dispute Resolution page.
Change of registrar
You can change your registrar at any time. Just contact the new registrar and provide the transfer password (so called AuthInfo). The new registrar will then carry out the transfer of the domain name.
Here is how to obtain the transfer password:
Through your current registrar
Through the new registrar
By completing the form – Request for a password (Authinfo)
If the contact is registered with MojeID, you can also obtain AuthInfo by signing in to the Domain Browser
AuthInfo is issued for the object being transferred. Using a domain name AuthInfo transfers only the domain name; the contact, nameserver set (NSSET), and keyset remain with the original registrar.
To transfer all domain names, NSSETs, and keysets associated with a contact, you must use the contact password.
