Ostrava/Prague, September 8 – The learning center of the Czech national domain administrator – the CZ.NIC Academy – can now be frequented by those who live closer to the Moravian-Silesian metropolis. The first course on the emerging Internet protocol IPv6 and its implementation is held in Ostrava on October 16. Those interested in participating in this course can now register at the akademie.nic.cz website. The CZ.NIC Academy opens its branch in Ostrava in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, which also provided the learning center with ideal conditions for holding the courses in the university premises. The CZ.NIC Academy offers training in the area of Internet and Internet technologies.

“The CZ.NIC Association’s goal is to raise awareness in the area of Internet and Internet technologies. One of our projects aimed at achieving this goal is the establishment of special learning centers offering courses on issues neglected by other institutions,” said Ondřej Filip, the executive director of the CZ.NIC Association. “I am very pleased that it is here at the university where we have found the ideal conditions in Ostrava, because our courses are designed not only for IT professionals, but also for university students. The CZ.NIC Academy’s offer can help them in deepening their knowledge of technologies such as the emerging Internet protocol IPv6, the Domain Name System (DNS) or the DNSSEC security extension.”

“The opening of the CZ.NIC learning center at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava shall contribute to the cooperation between the two institutions and benefit the students, professional community and the public with an interest in information and communication technology (ICT). Our university is very closely tied to the Moravian-Silesian Region and this step is fully consistent with the mission of the University in the field of ICT education, which is one of the study programs provided by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in Ostrava. We cooperate with a number of businesses and secondary and higher vocational schools; in addition, we opened a new multifunctional faculty building several months ago. We can therefore offer high quality facilities to potential course applicants and I believe that they will quite enjoy it here,” said Associate Professor Miroslav Vozňák, Head of Department of Telecommunication Engineering of VSB.

The CZ.NIC Academy offers courses not only for Internet enthusiasts and professionals, but they can be attended also by students or teachers of secondary and higher vocational schools or grammar schools. The learning center of the Czech national domain administrator also provides special courses tailored for specific groups of Internet users. This offer was in the past used for example by employees of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic or the Police of the Czech Republic.
