Turris Omnia Router has gained USD 1 million; the most was contributed by Czechs

The countries whose inhabitants contributed the most to this sum are the Czech Republic with more than a quarter share (28 %), followed by USA (16 %), Germany (14 %) and the United Kingdom (4 %).

Prague, 29. March 2016 - Turris Omnia, Czech open source router with advanced security features developed by CZ.NIC Association, administrator of the Czech national domain, today gained one million US dollars (more than CZK 24 million) through crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com. The countries whose inhabitants contributed the most to this sum are the Czech Republic with more than a quarter share (28 %), followed by USA (16 %), Germany (14 %) and the United Kingdom (4 %). The original aim of CZ.NIC was only $100,000. We were able to reach this sum in less than 24 hours after the launch of the campaign on Indiegogo.com.

“When we introduced the Turris Omnia project last November, our goal was to raise USD 100 thousand for its production. We exceeded this sum in less than 24 hours. Another milestone was CZK 10 million, and we passed it on last year’s Christmas Eve. The last day of our campaign on Indiegogo was marked by collecting a respectable USD 856 thousand. All these numbers and the relatively short time for achieving them show that users are aware of importance of the browsing safety, also from the perspective of network equipment. We are very pleased that our router with advanced security features raised interest and that it keeps attracting new buyers despite the fact that the main part of the campaign for this project is long over,” said Ondřej Filip, the CEO of CZ.NIC.

The project of CZ.NIC attests to the security being a worldwide issue, and not just from the perspective of companies, organizations and governments, but also households. The latter are increasingly being equipped with more or less smart electronics and appliances, for which the Turris Omnia router can be one of the most effective ways of protection.
