105 listeners in total have attended the first Czech ENUM Day, a conference on the modern ENUM technology extending options of the Internet telephony. The greatest interest of participants aroused the panel discussion and presentation of Jan Růžička from the CESNET association and Milan Stehlík from Annex Net, followed by an active discussion between the attendees and the speakers. The premier year of the ENUM Day conference was organized by CZ.NIC, administrator of the CZ Czech national domain and the ENUM domain.
The ENUM Day conference which took place on 12 September in Galerie Louvre in Prague included speeches of representatives of the CZ.NIC association, regulatory bodies, telecommunication operators using ENUM, manufacturers of HW supporting this technology and academic institutions as well as ENUM domain and system administrators from Austria and Germany. All presentations from the ENUM Day conference will be available from 14 September at the website accessible at http://enum.nic.cz/enumday.
"We ale pleased by the interest in the ENUM technology, both on the part of operators and telecommunication solution providers and on the part of end users. The more companies and individuals participate in the ENUM system, the greater the benefits for all participants are. All who join the ENUM technology will experience a revolutionary change in the telephony area – phone calls with no minute fees," stated Pavel Tůma, ENUM project manager at the CZ.NIC association.
"The level of the actual conference and its organization was a pleasant surprise for me. I appreciate also the selection of topics for all speeches. Participants could use them to get a complex idea about the ENUM issues concerning both the technical solution and organization and legislation aspects," commented Mical Stehlík from Annex Net. "Every conference the purpose of which is to bring attendees something new and beneficial makes sense. ENUM Day is no exception."
"We thank all attendees of the conference and of course all speakers from the Czech Republic and abroad for their participation and are looking forward to meeting them again at the next ENUM Day," concluded the successful premier year Ondřej Filip, managing director of CZ.NIC.
ENUM in the Czech Republic The CZ.NIC association launched commercial operation of the ENUM system on this year's 22th January. Almost 2,900 domains have been registered in the Czech Republic so far, representing over 556,000 phone numbers. This number of domains positions the Czech Republic among the largest domain registers in the world. ENUM domains are registered by 11 registrars. The ENUM technology is supported in networks of the following telecommunication operators: IPEX, CESNET, CL-NET and NETWAY. Several more operators are getting ready to support ENUM calls. From the European countries, the ENUM system is currently in use, among others, in UK, Austria, Germany, Poland, Finland, Romania, and Ireland. Testing operation is in progress in several other countries. The national ENUM domain is delegated in virtually all European countries.
About the ENUM System The ENUM system takes advantage of both the classic and IP telephony, enabling users of fixed as well as mobile phone numbers to register special ENUM domains for these numbers, containing directions needed to reach these numbers over the Internet. Numbers with matching ENUM domains can then be called over the Internet for free, no matter in which provider's network the given number is located (including foreign networks). In the Czech Republic, the task to implement and maintain the ENUM system has been assigned by the Ministry of Informatics to the CZ.NIC association. More information on the ENUM system is available at http://enum.nic.cz.
