CZ.NIC warns – a number of holders of CZ domains are not keeping their contact details up to date

The CZ.NIC Association, the administrator of the national domain CZ, warns domain holders of the advisability of checking contact and other details in the domain records.

The CZ.NIC Association, the administrator of the national domain CZ, warns domain holders of the advisability of checking contact and other details in the domain records. For domain holders CZ.NIC has prepared a simple instrument for checking the accuracy of contact and other details, available at the address http://migrace.nic.cz.

In connection with the transition of the administration of the CZ domain to a new registration system there will also be a change in the structure of the data in the domain database. Inaccurate or out-dated data in the database may cause domain holders problems when extending the registration of domains or their transfer. Domain holders with correctly and currently completed data will not notice the transition to the new system of administration of the CZ domain in any way.

"In the transfer of the domain database to the new registration system all the domains will be transferred, regardless of how complete or current the contact details are. Nobody, therefore, can lose his domain under the influence of the transfer of administration," said Ondřej Filip, Executive Director of the CZ.NIC association. "Domain holders with inaccurate details may, of course, have problems with later handling of the domain – whether with its extension or transfer."

Instrument for checking the details of a domain
The CZ.NIC association has prepared a special website for domain holders at the address http://migrace.nic.cz, where domain holders can easily verify whether their contact details are up-to-date and accurate. At the same time they will find instruction on how and where to handle any change in their details.

"The contact data in the domain database is completed by the holders themselves during registration, the CZ.NIC association cannot therefore correct or change them in any way of its own accord," added Martin Peterka, operating manager of the CZ.NIC association. "The most frequent problems with data on domains are out-of-date contacts for the domain holders. CZ.NIC tries to communicate currently with domain holders who do not have all the necessary particulars correctly complete and to notify them of the need for rectification."

In the case of firms and various institutions there are often changes in the persons of the technical administrators of domains, often of course without any change in the appropriate data in the domain. CZ.NIC communicates with users always on the basis of the details given, and in the case that these are not valid the association cannot resolve with the domain holders any problems occurring in the transfer or other change in the details about the domain.

New system for administration of the CZ domain
The new system for registration and administration of the CZ domain will be started up on 1 October 2007. At the same time there will be a reduction in the administrative costs of the new system. The rules for registration of CZ domains will be even further simplified. The new system for registration and administration of domains was developed and is operated by the CZ.NIC Association, and since September 2006 the registration of ENUM domains has been running on this system. Further details on the transfer of the administration of the CZ domain to the new system will be published currently on the Internet pages of the CZ.NIC Association at the address http://nic.cz..
