Turris Omnia, a secure router made in Europe, was unveiled today at the CES in Prague

Once all routers pre-ordered in the crowdfunding campaign have been delivered, the commercial sale of Turris Omnia to customers will begin. Potential buyers may already pre-order Turris Omnia in online shops all over Europe.

Turris Omnia, a secure European router developed by CZ.NIC, the Czech domain names administrator, was officially presented to the public for the first time today at the CES Unvieled conference. The production of the unique router, for which over CZK 28 million was collected during the crowdfunding campaign, has already started and the first routers are already on the way to their new users who have pre-ordered them at Indiegogo.com. Once all routers pre-ordered in the crowdfunding campaign have been delivered, the commercial sale of Turris Omnia to customers will begin. Potential buyers may already pre-order Turris Omnia in online shops all over Europe.

Secure Gate to the Internet

Software updates in traditional routers have to be installed by the users themselves, who are usually unaware that updates are available and, consequently, do not update their devices. By contrast, Turris Omnia will install security updates completely automatically. This dramatically improves its security for the users, which is very desirable in the context of the gradual growth of the Internet of Things.

More than Just a Router

In addition to a unique security system, Turris Omnia also offers much broader usage opportunities thanks to its high performance and hardware options. The network-attached storage feature enables smooth media sharing and fast backups of precious data. The SIM card slot allows to connect an LTE modem to provide backup Internet connection via mobile networks. Turris Omnia, manufactured in the Czech Republic, is so versatile that it can even be used in combination with a USB DVB-Tuner to cast TV to smartphones and computers.

Ready for the Future

Similar to smartphones and computers, network technologies are also constantly evolving. However, not many people are willing to buy a new router and re-configure the entire network when the time comes to upgrade to a more powerful device. Turris Omnia is a high-performance device – thanks to the user-accessible set of mini-PCIe slots for installation of extension cards, it will not be necessary to replace the router every time a new Wi-Fi standard is introduced. The user will then simply buy a new Wi-Fi card and connect it to the device to upgrade to the latest technologies available on the market.

Price and Availability

Turris Omnia with its unique security system and 1 GB RAM can now be pre-ordered at Alza.cz online shops for CZK 7,622. A 2 GB RAM model is available to more demanding customers for CZK 8,832.
