The CZ.NIC association, which is the administrator of the national domain CZ, after two years repeated the survey between Czech internet users (both organisations and individuals), whose goal was to find out the interest for implementation of second level domains with Czech diacriticals (for example www.českárepublika.cz), so-called. IDN (Internationalized Domain Names). Same as in the 2004 survey, majority of respondents voted against the implementation of IDN.
432 organisations that hold at least one domain name each in the CZ domain were asked trough telephone and 555 individual internet users between 18 and 64 years of age were asked personally in the survey carried out by the Markent agency.
313 answers were processed out of the total number of 432 organisations asked, only 20% of the respondents showed interest in implementation of the domains with diacriticals. The interest in IDN between organisations is thus even lower than in 2004, when 24% of the respondents supported its implementation.
The individual internet users in Czech Republic show higher interest in domains with diacriticals, 45 % of respondents out of the total number of 555 supported their implementation. The individual internet users were not included in the 2004 survey.
Ondřej Filip, director of the CZ.NIC association says: “The survey results haven’t surprised us“. “We will of course monitor the interest of users in diacriticals in the CZ domain and if we discover increasing interest in IDN in the Czech domain, we will return to this project.“
Internet users are satisfied with the activities of CZ.NIC association
Assessment of satisfaction with the activities of the CZ.NIC association as the administrator of the CZ national domain was also part of the survey between organisations and private internet owners. 92 % of the respondents between organisations and 86% of the asked individuals declared that they are very satisfied or mostly satisfied.
„High satisfaction with our activities between Czech internet users delights us and also obliges us“, comments Ondřej Filip. „I believe that also the lowering of the upkeeping fee for CZ domain from the year 2007 by 20% to CZK 400 and in close future also the transfer of technical operation of the CZ domain to the CZ.NIC association will also help with positive perception of the association.“
