Thanks to its fans, the unique Turris MOX modular router goes into production

The campaign has been extended until May 31. This will allow the introduction of new modules and provide more time for large corporate backers, with whom the Association is conducting negotiations and whose decision is still pending.

The CZ.NIC Association, the administrator of the Czech national domain, announced that it has managed to get the target amount of USD 250,000 (about CZK 5,500,000) for the project of the modular router Turris MOX in the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. This result puts the secure open source router among the most successful Czech projects on Indiegogo. The Association expressed its gratitude to backers by increasing the capacity of the SD card delivered in MOX sets from 4 GB to 8 GB. The campaign has been extended until May 31. This will allow the introduction of new modules and provide more time for large corporate backers, with whom the Association is conducting negotiations and whose decision is still pending.

“Speaking on behalf of the Association, I would like to thank everyone for the support and feedback we received in the course of the past month and a half. Thanks go to all our fans and backers, both individuals and companies. Specifically, I would like to thank the company Discomp, with whom we have been cooperating for a long time, and who decided to strongly support the Turris MOX campaign,” said Ondřej Filip, CEO of CZ.NIC. “We are very pleased that we have been able to obtain the means to start the production of the Turris MOX router and we appreciate the incentives that motivated us to create new modules and expansions. We will introduce further improvements as a part of an extension of the campaign, which begins today and runs until May 31.”

New expansions and the first stretch goals

In addition to the required funding, the Indiegogo campaign has brought many impulses for creating additional modules and extensions. That is why the CZ.NIC has decided to extend the campaign in order to gain more time to introduce further improvements. The first one is the Turris MOX G (Super Extension) module. The mPCIe pass-through expansion module allows more than one mPCIe device to be used in one set or to combine them with the Turris MOX F USB module. The new expansion module will be available as a stand-alone board or in the boxed version.

The Association also introduced the first stretch goal, which will be realized in the case that the campaign raises at least USD 350,000. It will bring the Bluetooth wireless communication capabilities to all Wi-Fi enabled sets. The condition for achieving this upgrade is reaching USD 350,000.

The campaign extension will be also helpful for large corporate backers who need more time to decide on investing in technological innovation than small businesses and private individuals.
