CZ.NIC agreed on coop. with a Brazilian partner, which will improve the quality of the DNS traffic

Uzavřená dohoda umožní reciproční provozování DNS serverů, které zvýší bezpečnost DNS provozu a zrychlí zpracování DNS dotazů na obou stranách oceánu.

Today will mark the launch of cooperation between CZ.NIC, the Czech national domain administrator, and the Brazilian national registry NIC.br. This agreement will allow the reciprocal operation of DNS servers, which will increase the security of DNS traffic and accelerate the processing of DNS queries on both sides of the ocean. For CZ.NIC, this project will bring an increase in the number of foreign locations where the DNS traffic of the .CZ domain is handled, as well as the next step in upgrading its own DNS infrastructure. NIC.br administers almost four million .BR domains and it is one of the largest domain registers in the world.

“Working with Brazilian colleagues means a qualitative expansion of our operations in South America, where we already operate DNS servers in Chile. This project saves both parties not only time but also the costs of logistics and thus the costs of operation of both infrastructures. By launching a node in Brazil, we are continuing to upgrade our DNS infrastructure and we are adding another (ninth) site where we operate our DNS anycast,” said Ondřej Filip*, CEO of CZ.NIC.

“Expanding our Anycast network in cooperation with CZ.NIC is a demonstration on how the original Internet spirit is still alive. Even though this could be achieved by contracting services in those locations nothing is better than the partnership with a local trusted organization with common interests. Those new nodes connected to NIX.CZ Prague will improve .BR experience in Europe and CZ.NIC’s servers at IX.BR São Paulo gives them access to the largest Internet exchange in South America.” said Frederico Neves, CTO of NIC.br.

The cooperation between CZ.NIC and NIC.br is also important from the point of view of Internet networks. By connecting NIC.br DNS servers in the Czech Republic using three 10 Gbps ports to the NIX.CZ neutral interconnection node, DNS responses for .BR domains will be improved not only in the Czech Republic but also across Europe. Connecting CZ.NIC DNS servers to the world’s second largest peering node, the Brazilian IX.br, will have the same effect for the .CZ domain in South America. CZ.NIC will deploy its standard five-server 10-Gbps DNS stack in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which has been placed in all foreign locations since 2017.

For CZ.NIC, this is not the first cooperation with Latin American countries. The national domain administrators of Argentina and Costa Rica use the FRED registration system for the administration of .CR and .AR domains.
