IANA, an international organization that, among other things, manages the root zone of the Domain Name System (DNS), has appointed Ondřeje Filipa a member of the prestigious group of Trusted Community Representatives (TCR). The CEO of CZ.NIC and Chairman of the Board of the Czech neutral peering node NIX.CZ became one of ten Backup TCRs, who are ready to replace the so-called Active TCRs if necessary. The Trusted Community Representatives group was created as a result of efforts to make DNS more secure, specifically via DNSSEC technology. These respected experts supervise the process of signing the root zone and are ready to resume its operation in the event of a complete shutdown. The Trusted Community Representatives group consists of Backup TCRs (10 persons), Cryptographic Officers (14 persons) and Recovery Key Share Holders (7 persons).
“Being part of TCR is a great honor, and I greatly appreciate this appointment. I take it as a reward for the work on DNS and DNSSEC projects at CZ.NIC, such as the authoritative server Knot DNS or Knot Resolver. I would also like to mention on this occasion that the Czech Republic is among the world leaders in the implementation of DNSSEC. Since 2016, more than half of the .CZ domains have been secured with this technology,” Ondřej Filip said on the occasion of his appointment.
