These shall include driver’s penalty point system, personal pension insurance certificate, electronic prescribing, or student certificates. Hundreds of thousands of registered mojeID users will now be able to access these and other state electronic services after having attached a security key to their account and underwent the full identity verification process. The CZ.NIC Association, the Czech national domain administrator and operator of mojeID, announced today the launch of a project that will allow to interconnect this service with the identification and authentication node of National Identification Authority (NIA). CZ.NIC has been operating mojeID since 2010 and during the 10 years of operation, almost 700,000 accounts were registered.
“From today, the interconnection of our mojeID service and the NIA system is fully functional and ready for all the potential users. In the past weeks, we have thoroughly tested everything during pilot operation, in which several dozen regular users have successfully connected to NIA. We are now launching a campaign to give out security keys to selected users. At first, the campaign will be invitation-based, and afterwards we will open it up for more mojeID users. At the same time, we are looking for a way to ensure the easy availability of security keys also after the end of the retail campaign,” said Ondřej Filip, CEO of CZ.NIC. “Recently, there has been talk of a BankID service that should operate on a principle similar to mojeID. In this context, I would like to add that, naturally, we are open to wider cooperation, also with financial sector entities. Our association has been operating mojeID for ten years and over that period it has become a proven and flexible platform that can be used both for communication with public administration and in common online services requiring accurate identification.”
An innovative element brought by the mojeID service is the use of security keys complying with FIDO Alliance standards. These keys, unlike chip card technologies, do not require a reader – the physical key can be connected via a USB connector or using NFC and Bluetooth wireless technologies. In addition, modern operating systems offer the use of a system key directly linked to the user’s account on their computer. This applies, for example, to Windows 10 with the Hello function or Android (version 7 and above). Users of these systems do not have to acquire any security keys and can immediately start comfortably using eGovernment services without the need to install additional applications on their systems.
“In our building of the digital Czech Republic, one of the priorities is to aim for a unified digital identity. The possibility to use already existing, reliable and secure wide-spread products such as the mojeID service to communicate with the government undoubtedly means a benefit not only for its users, but also for the government itself. We welcome and support cooperation with experts from the private sector, including the independent association CZ.NIC. With its projects, the Czech national domain administrator has long been involved in the expansion of eGovernment in the Czech Republic, and the connection of the mojeID service to the NIA system is a clear proof of that,” added Vladimír Dzurilla, Chief Digital Officer for IT and Digitization.
