The CZ.NIC Publications publishes Data, Chips, Processors by the famous publicist Martin Malý

The Czech national domain administrator is expanding its range of expert books with a new title by the popular author Martin Malý, entitled Data, Chips, Processors. This book loosely follows on the author’s previous two titles (Logic Gates, Volts, Microcontrollers and Ports, Bytes, 8bits), also published by the CZ.NIC Publications. Just like these two books, Data, Chips, Processors also contains a detailed theoretical part, complemented with appropriate practical examples. These take readers through the world of field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

So if someone wants to build any kind of electronic system tailored to their needs and does not know how to do it, this book is just the thing. The electronic version of the book is available for free download at https://knihy.nic.cz while its printed version can be purchased from most booksellers.

“As written in the book, microprocessors have brought tremendous advances in electronics. Today’s most discussed integrated circuits are FPGAs. Thanks to them, everyone can design their own microprocessor, tailored to their needs. You will find a lot of information on this topic on the Internet, which suggests that it is not entirely easy to grasp this issue and decide where, how and what to start with. This book will introduce the world of FPGA to you in a very engaging way, entice you and provide you with useful building blocks with which you can start your own experiments,” Michal Hrušecký, head of the hardware development department of the CZ.NIC Association, says in recommendation of the new title.

The first chapters of this book deal with the history and functionality of FPGAs and a detailed explanation of the VHDL programming language, which is used to describe logic circuits. In the following sections, the author explains the basic principles, which he follows up with an analysis of more complex circuits and components. Like this, he is gradually working his way up to the so-called “systems on a chip”. At the end of the book, readers can then design their own 16-bit microprocessor with simple software. The publication also includes practical examples, including constructions or recommendations for suitable development kits and other material.

About the author:

Martin Malý (also known as Arthur Dent or Adent) is a Czech programmer, blogger, publicist and commentator. You can find Martin Malý’s texts on the Digiweb, Zdroják or iHNed.cz servers. Since 2015, Martin Malý has been popularizing the Internet of Things and DIY electronics, lecturing on these fields and training those interested in the Arduino platform. For his popularization activities, Martin Malý was nominated in 2016 in the Křišťálová Lupa poll, in the category One (wo)man show. Electronics has been his hobby since childhood; his favorite are old 8-bit computers from the 1980s. In cooperation with the administrator of the Czech national domain, he teaches the “Arduino for Teachers” course at the CZ.NIC Academy.
