The latest piece to expand the CZ.NIC Publications book series is titled Unity. Its author is the educator and programmer Tomáš Holan, who conceived his book as a guide for those who would like to get acquainted with this tool for creating 2D and 3D computer games, but do not know where to start. Taking the creation of a single game as an example, the author presents the basic principles, techniques and building blocks, while pointing out to possible problems and their solutions. The electronic version of the book is available for free download at https://knihy.nic.cz, and the printed version can be purchased from most booksellers.

“The book is not written as a manual or textbook and does not claim it will teach the reader everything about Unity. Its benefit lies in something else, and I think, it is much more fundamental. It is very easy-going and illustrative. It explains what you need to achieve the goal. Readers do not waste their time with dry theory only to learn at the end of the book that it might prove useful one day. On the contrary. The book starts with setting the goal, and then proceeds to the solution. In some cases, it explains how to change the goal, as there is no such thing as a perfect task in the real world,” says Michal Hrušecký, head of the department of hardware development at CZ.NIC.

This title is suitable for readers who have at least minimal awareness of programming related to variables, objects, substitution, cycles, and functions. The knowledge of C# language which is used to create the source code in Unity would be an advantage; however, any other programming language is sufficient to understand the examples. The book will be useful not only to inquisitive high school students and their teachers, but also to those who have heard of Unity, but have been swamped with information, instructions and tutorials.

He worked on a number of various projects, such as the operating system for ÁMOS 8-bit computers, a software for double-entry bookkeeping, an academic information system, a syntactic analyzer of Czech sentences, an educational game about the European Union – Europe 2045, a game for mobile phones or a geometry training application GeoTest.
