The CZ.NIC Association, administrator of the Czech national domain, has published its annual Domain Report, in which it draws attention to interesting data associated with the .CZ domain. Last year, the number of domains increased to more than 1.42 million, which means a year-on-year increase of almost 4 percent. On average, over 17,000 domains were registered per month. A comprehensive statistics overview provides an overall report on the status of the Czech national domain – on DNS traffic, DNSSEC technology, software used for major Internet services or interesting facts about domain names and geography. Details for each of these areas are available on the website.

By the end of 2021, a total of 1,424,131 .CZ domains were registered in the domain register, which means that this number has increased by more than 7 percent over the last three years. Out of a total of 206,443 registrations, most took place from January to March and then from November to December, which, just like in the previous year, corresponds to the pandemic waves.

The data also show that the vast majority of second-level domains already have authoritative DNS servers responding to queries via both IPv4 and IPv6, which is more than 80 percent of the total number of domains. At the same time, however, the proportion of IPv6 in DNS traffic is significantly lower, with one-third in authoritative servers and less than a tenth in the ODVR public resolver.

The Domain Report further states that the largest number of domain holders comes from the Czech Republic (almost 92 percent), with most of them from Prague (420,208) while the smallest number comes from the Karlovy Vary Region (15,843). The share of foreign domain holders is currently 8.2 percent, with the largest group consisting of holders from Slovakia, Germany and the United States. The number of domains held in Slovakia, the United States, France and the Bahamas is on the rise, while the number of domains held in Germany continues to decline.

The complete 2021 Domain Report is available on the Association’s website. Other data relating to the Czech national domain can be found in the CZ.NIC statistics.
