mojeID users now have access to public service web portals in most European countries

The mojeID service, with almost 870,000 user accounts, is the first non-governmental Czech authentication tool to enable this for Czech citizens.

Since July, mojeID users with the active function of access to public administration services can log in to such online services not only in the Czech Republic, but also in other European countries. Among the services that are now universally available to mojeID users are the public portals of Slovakia, a number of systems of EU institutions or the domain management portals of several European domain registries. The mojeID service, with almost 870,000 user accounts, is the first non-governmental Czech authentication tool to enable this for Czech citizens.

“The eIDAS node, the Czech international gateway, which is also operated by the CZ.NIC Association, is currently connected to 22 countries out of 29 possible (counting the whole of the EEC). The only countries missing are Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Liechtenstein, which have not launched their own nodes. The rest of the countries already have an established infrastructure to which many of their electronic services are connected. These are now available to mojeID users,” said Jaromír Talíř, who is responsible for the development of the mojeID service at CZ.NIC.

Although there is not yet an official list of portals in each country that would clearly show which services are available to citizens of other countries, traffic logs of the international gateway show which countries are most frequently accessed by users from the Czech Republic.

“From our communication with our Slovak colleagues, it appears that the portal of the Slovak Financial Administration and the general public administration portal are among the most used..We also have information that users from the Czech Republic very often log in to the European central authentication system (EU Login), which is followed by, for example, the European Citizens' Initiative portal or the portal for subsidies and tenders. The third area that I must certainly not leave out is domain name management. In this field, mojeID can now be used to communicate with the national domain registries of Estonia or Denmark,” added Jaromír Talíř.

For more information on the use of mojeID for online communication with authorities and public portals in European countries, see Jaromír Talíř's article (Czech only) available on the CZ.NIC blog. Last week, Lupa.cz published a text by Jiří Peterka (Czech only), an expert on digital identities, in which the author discusses the practical aspects of using mojeID when logging in to European online service portals.
