SIC ČR and CSIRT.CZ are to audit the security of webs and applications of educational institutions
The new service is intended to enable regular security checks of websites and other applications that educational organizations run and put online.
The Safer Internet Center of the Czech Republic (SIC CR) and the National Security Team CSIRT.CZ, both operated by the CZ.NIC Association, the .CZ domain administrator, have come up with a new service offered free of charge to organizations working with children and adolescents (schools, libraries, children’s homes and more). The new service is intended to enable regular security checks of websites and other applications that educational organizations run and put online.
“The aim of the service, which SIC CR and CSIRT.CZ are launching symbolically at the beginning of the new school year, is to help improve the security of websites, networks and applications that may store sensitive information, such as children’s personal data. Data in applications used for signing up for clubs, selecting meals in the school canteen or providing communication between parents and the school are subject to GDPR and it is important to ensure that they are sufficiently protected. In the event of a leak of personal data, passwords and other data concerning children and minors, the extent of its misuse can be devastating,” said Pavel Bašta, security analyst at CZ.NIC and head of the CSIRT.CZ National Security Team.
The service itself consists of regular quarterly runs of an automated vulnerability testing tool. After the tests are completed, a report with the scan results is sent to the organization that requested the scanning of its online services. If the results of the tests are unclear or if the staff of a given organization is interested in consultation, they can ask CSIRT.CZ staff for a one-off consultation.
