A new book from CZ.NIC Publications will guide you on becoming a guardian while online

The richly illustrated book is intended primarily for young readers who want to know how to behave safely on the Internet and what to be wary of.

Protecting mobile devices, sharing content online, online dating, cyberbullying and the risks associated with online gaming are just some of the topics covered in the new book “Guardians Online” published by CZ.NIC Publications. The author of the texts is Martin Kožíšek, the coordinator of the Safer Internet Center of the Czech Republic project and a long-time expert on risky online behavior. The richly illustrated book is intended primarily for young readers who want to know how to behave safely on the Internet and what to be wary of. Print editions and e-books in standard formats are available for purchase at most bookstores.

The book is divided into eight sections in which the main characters Mia, Cat and Ypsilon the Robot offer useful tips on how to stay safe in the digital world. Across more than one hundred and fifty pages, readers will learn, for example, how to protect their passwords, how to handle phone theft, how to spot misinformation, and how to use social networks safely. The book also looks at safe online dating and cyberbullying, taking a light-hearted approach to these issues.

“Modern technology and the Internet present a world in which children often face issues and situations they are unwilling or unable to share with their parents. When preparing the texts, I aimed for the book to help overcome this intergenerational gap and to facilitate communication between both sides”, says the author of the book Martin Kožíšek. “When creating the book, we put emphasis on an attractive visual form that combines conventional text with illustrations. In addition, it also contains various questions that encourage young readers to have an interactive and playful experience.”

The book “Guardians Online” is another in a series of popular educational materials produced by the Safer Internet Center of the Czech Republic.
