The CZ.NIC Association has released the 2024 Domain Report

At the end of last year, CZ.NIC registered 1,485,493 domains with the .CZ extension, with the 2024 registrations peaking in November (22,311) and dropping, as usual, in the summer (August, 13,460).

CZ.NIC, the Czech national domain administrator, has published the 2024 Domain Report. The summary offers key statistical facts about the state and development of the .CZ zone, which is primarily used by entities in Czechia (91%). At the end of last year, CZ.NIC registered 1,485,493 domains with the .CZ extension, with the 2024 registrations peaking in November (22,311) and dropping, as usual, in the summer (August, 13,460). On average, 16,374 .CZ domains were registered per month during last year. Once again, the Domain Report includes chapters on Web Content, Domain Geography, as well as statistics on DNS traffic and the implementation of DNSSEC technology.

One of the novelties of this year’s report is the section dedicated to the Domain Auction service, which was launched by the CZ.NIC Association last May. The service is offered for .CZ domains that have not been renewed in order for them to return to the domain realm The most attractive deleted domains used to be fought over, which, due to technical and administrative limitations on access to the registry, could only take place among a handful of interested parties. For this reason, CZ.NIC decided to open the market of deleted domains and offer the released domains through the Domain Auction service. The chart shows that in less than eight months of operation, 3,375 domains with the .CZ ending were auctioned.

The Domain Report 2024 also includes information on the distribution of domains in 14 regions of the Czech Republic and the number of .CZ domains per 100 inhabitants of each region. Compared to last year, the number of domains grew in all regions. The highest relative year-on-year increase was recorded in the Pilsen Region (3.95%; 1,809 domains), the South Moravian Region (2.74%; 4,511 domains) and the Karlovy Vary Region (2.6%; 423 domains). On the other hand, the smallest year-on-year increase of 0.81% (425 domains) was reported by the Ústí nad Labem Region.

Like the previous annual reports, the Domain Report 2024 is available for viewing on the ADAM website. Further statistical information related to the Czech national domain can be found at https://stats.nic.cz/.
