Turris Omnia NG Wired: a quiet 10Gbps router for racks and beyond, with an emphasis on security

The Turris Omnia NG Wired is primarily designed for installation in racks and infrastructure facilities such as server rooms and network cabinets.

The CZ.NIC Association, the Czech national domain administrator, presents Turris Omnia NG Wired – a model for mounting in a rack. This new product offers 10Gbps connectivity, the Turris OS operating system based on OpenWrt/Linux, and builds on the security principles of the Turris project and features a quiet, passive-cooling design. It is intended for businesses, institutions, and demanding users who want a powerful and sustainable network foundation and support European technologies, open source, and digital sovereignty. Further information, including availability, is available on the Turris Omnia NG Wired web page.

Designed for rack installation: 10G/2.5G connectivity in a compact package
The Turris Omnia NG Wired is primarily designed for installation in racks and infrastructure facilities such as server rooms and network cabinets. This allows the router to be placed exactly where it makes sense within the infrastructure, without having to comply with wireless coverage requirements. If a wireless network is needed in a given environment, it is advisable to use separate access points positioned according to the type of space; this allows the router to remain in the backroom while reducing the unnecessary wireless equipment in offices.

The device is designed for modern networks that require high throughput and room for advanced features. Turris Omnia NG Wired offers two 10Gbps SFP+ ports (commonly used for WAN and LAN backbone) and four 2.5GbE RJ45 ports for local devices. This allows it to function not only as a router, but also as an “edge/home lab” element for secure remote access via VPN, advanced network functions, running selected services in Linux, or working with containers.

“In addition to 10G and 2.5G ports, we also considered expandability. Thanks to M.2 slots, you can add NVMe storage or mobile connectivity as a backup, for example. This makes Omnia NG Wired a flexible foundation that can be adapted to specific deployments,” adds Michal Hrušecký, head of hardware development.

Safety first
Like previous devices, this new product is in line with the long-term approach of the Turris project: all data transmission is optional and only takes place with the user’s consent. Without it, the router does not send any data in the background, does not contain hidden analytical tools, and does not require accounts with big tech companies. If the user decides not to allow sharing, the device will continue to function but will not use the shared mass protection of the ecosystem ensured by Turris Sentinel. For device management and auditing purposes, it supports scenarios that require an overview of network activity – from monitoring and logging to exporting events to connected systems (such as SIEM).

A router built on European and open-source values
Turris Omnia NG Wired is developed in the Czech Republic as a product that brings together privacy, security, open code, and technological sovereignty.

“We have long strived to ensure that Czechia does not have to simply adopt ready-made solutions from abroad. We are capable of developing our own hardware and software that meets European requirements for security, transparency, and long-term support—and in doing so, we are contributing step by step to building an independent European technological ecosystem in the field of network infrastructure,” says Ondřej Filip, CEO of CZ.NIC, highlighting the values of the Turris project and other products of the Association.
