“CZ.NIC Association has a strong organizational background for operating all domain register services, and enjoys the reputation of a stable and reliable provider of such services. What is more, it is a commercially neutral organization that is not involved in any profitable activities and whose main tasks are running the domain register and raising awareness of Internet issues,” says Ondřej Filip, Managing Director CZ.NIC to explain why the Association plans to launch the OpenID project and adds: “As an OpenID administrator, we are one of a few organizations that have a chance to approach the Internet community and the market - both end users of identities and providers of Internet services.”

The mission of CZ.NIC Association is to benefit the Internet community in the Czech Republic. The implementation of this project is one of the numerous activities under preparation and to be launched in the near future for the Internet community. Pilot operation of OpenID will start at the beginning of next year. In autumn 2010, this service is expected to be running in a full scale.

About OpenID

OpenID is an open, decentralized and free system of electronic identity management. It is a technology that offers Internet users the possibility to use a single set of identification data (username and password) for various websites. OpenID eliminates the necessity to register and create a new account at every website the user is interested in. The development of the OpenID protocol runs under the auspices of the OpenID Foundation.
